Activity – High Stakes and You

Opportunity for Personal Reflection

Here are some questions for personal reflection.  Be honest with yourself without being self-critical. The purpose of this exercise is to raise your awareness of the types of situation that are ‘high stakes’ for you.  Even recognising that such situations exist can be sufficient to create some distance and lower the stakes.

Think of a recent situation which you would regard as ‘high stakes’ because of your strong reaction.

  • What was that reaction?
  • What were you feeling and/or thinking?
  • How did your behaviour change?
  • Did the situation remind you of something or someone in your past?

In the next session, we explore the core components of an effective Board; the role default behaviours of individual Board Members can play in helping drive success; and the impact ‘high stakes’ can have on these behaviours and overall Board decision-making.
