You have now seen the Power of Attorney document. Paul is listed as the Attorney and there is a power covering the administration of medications. Can you now act on this instruction from Paul?

You have conducted further investigations and you are now satisfied that Paul is the Attorney; has the necessary powers and it has been appropriately assessed that Mary lacks capacity. Can you now act on Paul’s instruction?

Despite the arrangement for Paul to collect a month’s supply of meds, his collection is sporadic. You’ve got reservations about it all. When Brian is in to collect his own prescription, out of courtesy, you ask after Mary. He becomes visibly distressed, so you take him in to your consulting area. Brian tells you that Mary has deteriorated a lot in the last few months, and he worries it is because she isn’t getting her medication routinely. Paul is supposed to sort it out but he doesn’t – some weeks Mary doesn’t have anything. Brian gets upset with himself over this, because he struggles to work out what medication she requires on a daily basis from the big monthly supply. What can you do about this?
