Activity - Supported Decision Making case study

SESSION 4: CLASS 2

Lorraine is 23, she has a learning disability but has a reasonable level of cognitive ability. You are Lorraine’s Aunt. Lorraine currently lives at home with her mother (your sister), although she is keen to get her own place with her boyfriend. Her mum thinks Lorraine doesn’t understand all that is involved in having her own place, is not mature enough, is too vulnerable and is refusing to countenance anymore discussion about this. This is causing a serious division between Lorraine and her mum; your sister has asked you to help her ‘talk some sense’ into Lorraine.

Use what you have heard during the video class on Supported Decision Making to consider this scenario – How you would approach this case?
